Margie Fowler was a Deer Lodge, MT, native and a long time piano teacher. Margie taught piano for 50 years in Missoula, Deer Lodge, Billings, and Helena to over 1,200 students. Two of her students were winners in statewide piano competitions and some of her students continued piano for professional degrees and became private piano teachers. Margie was a former president of HMTA and an NMTA National Fellow.
The Margie Fowler scholarship will be awarded to students at the collegiate level who are pursuing a major or a minor in music in the specific fields of Music Education, Piano or Vocal Performance, or Pedagogy.
One scholarship of $1000 will be awarded per year, only in the Spring, when there is an eligible student. That student needs to be nominated in a written letter of recommendation by his/her former teacher, who must be a current HMTA member; the letter is to be submitted to the scholarship committee. In addition the applicant must submit a recommendation letter from a current college professor. An application and audition video recording will be required.
